Magis Moment: September 2024
A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement听
It brought me such joy to join together in prayer last month with students, faculty, staff, members of the Ignatius Chapel community, and our generous donors for Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the new . Seeing it filled to 鈥渟tanding room only鈥 on a holy day of obligation reminded me of the collective commitment to this sacred space and the significant impact it鈥檚 already making on our campus. I鈥檓 so proud that the Chapel of St. Ignatius and the Gayle and Tom Benson Jesuit Center, located at the heart of our main campus, will be a blessing and resource for the entire city of New Orleans, where all are welcome.
Our new spiritual home provides a place of worship and a dedicated gathering space for Student Life and Ministry activities. To all of you who have supported this project by contributing your time and your treasure, to Mrs. Gayle Benson, and to the project team 鈥 The Tobler Company, Trahan Architects, and Woodward Design+Build 鈥 I want to extend my deep and heartfelt thanks from all of us at Loyola. Your passion positively impacts the greater Loyola community through a holy physical space and inspires others to join our mission.
We look forward to celebrating the consecration with you in 2025 once the commissioned altar is delivered. Until then, please don't be a stranger. Right now, the Chapel is open for Mass at 12:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on Sundays. There is also a 9 p.m. Mass with an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Mass each Sunday in the Chapel.
