Ignatian Syllabus Challenge

Ignatian Syllabus Challenge, 2022-2024

The Ignatian Syllabus聽Challenge is open to full-time faculty who will teach in the 2023-2024 academic year and provides a stipend totaling $2,500. Faculty from across campus who teach undergraduate, graduate, or Law courses and from all religious backgrounds (or none) are invited to participate. Participants will discuss representative works from the Jesuit, Catholic intellectual, social, spiritual, and artistic tradition, in order to

  • grow in understanding and appreciation of this tradition
  • reflect on the implications of this tradition for their teaching
  • develop a syllabus significantly enhanced in terms of this tradition
  • teach a course informed by this syllabus
  • assess the impact of this course
  • form faculty members who can be resources for other faculty
  • in general, integrate Loyola's Jesuit, Catholic mission across Loyola's curriculum

Timeline

  • Fall 2022:
    • Application deadline is December 1.
    • Attend an organizational lunch on December 15.聽
    • Receive schedule, books, and readings for Spring 2023.
  • Spring 2023
    • Attend 6 sessions on the Jesuit, Catholic intellectual, social, spiritual,聽and artistic tradition in Spring 2023.聽
    • Select a course to be taught in fall 2023 or spring 2024 that will be significantly enhanced in terms of the Jesuit and/or Catholic intellectual, spiritual, and artistic tradition
    • Receive payment of $1000
  • Before the course is taught:
    • Develop a finalized聽syllabus聽significantly enhanced in terms of the Jesuit and/or Catholic intellectual, spiritual, social, and/or artistic tradition
    • Receive a payment of $800
  • Fall 2023 or Spring 2024
    • Teach the course
    • Attend one midterm group meeting
    • Submit an end-of-course assessment report
    • Receive payment of $700
