Mitch Landrieu, J.D. ’85, H. ’05

Mitch Landrieu’s long political career began when he was elected to the Louisiana Legislature in 1988. He was re-elected to that body three times before becoming Lieutenant Governor in 2004, and then again in 2007.
Landrieu was elected Mayor of the City of New Orleans in 2010 and served two terms. When he took office, the city was still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and was in the midst of the BP oil spill. Under Landrieu's leadership, New Orleans is widely recognized as one of the nation’s great comeback stories.
Landrieu currently serves as a political commentator on CNN and recently launched the E Pluribus Unum Fund, which seeks to bring people together across the South around the issues of race, equity, economic opportunity and violence.
