NEW ORLEANS – Students at Loyola University will have the chance to hear from – and work with – several legendary hip-hop producers and industry veterans this Saturday at Bayou Beats & Soul, a hip-hop and R&B summit starting at 1 p.m. in Nunemaker Hall.

Rockwilder, Deezle, KLC, KC da Producer, DJ Spin and Josh Gannet will participate in a producers’ panel following a keynote address and then host workshops with the students to create music tracks, making new music in real time, said Raney Antoine Jr., Professor of Practice, Hip Hop and R&B, at Loyola. The producers and students will then review the tracks, with the producers offering feedback to the students, he said.

“Only at Loyola University are opportunities like this abundant,” Antoine said. “It’s not every day that these producers pull up at a school. These are the people students look up to, and they get to meet and work with them.”

Rockwilder, a Grammy Award-winning producer who has worked with Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, SZA and Mary J. Blige, among others, will headline the hip-hop summit along with Deezle, a New Orleans native who produced Lil Wayne’s Grammy-Award winning album, Tha Carter III. Deezle also has worked with artists including Nicki Minaj, Drake and Chris Brown.

Producers KLC and KC da Producer also will be part of the panel, as will DJ Spin and Josh Gannet.

Grammy Award-nominated producer KLC, also from New Orleans, led the production team for Beats by the Pound, which produced all of the artists signed to Master P’s label, No Limit Records, including Snoop Dogg, Mia X, C-Murder and Mystikal. KC da Producer has been nominated for four Grammys and worked with Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne and T.I., to name a few.

DJ Spin is a New Orleans-born DJ, producer, engineer and studio owner who has worked with Mystikal, Juvenile and Britney Spears. Josh Gannet is a mixing and recording engineer with credits including Redman, Wu-Tang Clan and Keith Richards.

Focusrite, an industry leader in professional audio, is sponsoring Bayou Beats & Soul in partnership with Loyola’s Hip Hop and R&B program. Representatives from ADAM Audio and Novation, both part of The Focusrite Group, will be on hand as well.

The union between Loyola and Focusrite has exposed students to the kinds of

cutting-edge technology used in music studios by industry-leading professionals, said Lovell “U-P” Cooper, Professor of Practice, Hip Hop and R&B, and Recording Studios Manager at Loyola, who developed the relationship between Loyola and the audio company to improve the school’s studio spaces.

“One of the largest professional audio companies in the world has chosen to partner with Loyola in the coveted arena of hip hop and R&B,” Antoine said. “Our students will be introduced to the latest technology before it is introduced to the world.”
