Loyola Students Go for the Gold in the Side Hustle Expo
(New Orleans – March 31, 2021) Aspiring entrepreneurs at will put their business ideas to the test next week in the inaugural Side Hustle Expo, a contest designed to showcase small business enterprises. The competition takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, in the St. Charles Room of the Danna Student Center on campus.
“I began hearing about all these students supporting themselves while in school through really innovative side hustles and thought we should show them off - perhaps help them get new customers,” said Bara Watts, executive director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development hosting the event. “Loyola’s students are remarkably entrepreneurial.”
In this cross-campus event, participating students from nearly every major and minor will vie to win the Grand Prize, a $1,000 digital marketing campaign offered by Perk Media. Runners up and the winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive Wolf Bucks, valued currency that can be used in the Loyola bookstore and eateries on campus.
A small panel made up of members of the business community, including high-achieving alumni, will judge the student business presentations displayed in the Danna Student Center on campus.
Loyola trustee and alumnus Robért LeBlanc, one of the city’s top entrepreneurs and a key player in the city’s hospitality industry, will share words of wisdom in a keynote talk titled “The Entrepreneurial Journey” and announce the winners. A disc jockey will be on hand to pump up the jam.
Join us from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, in the Student Center’s St Charles Room to see all the side hustles, hear the winning results and enjoy the fun!
