By Loyola University on Thu, 12/14/2023 - 14:23

黑料社区 students will soon have more opportunities to recycle paper, plastic and glass on campus, thanks to a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful.听

Loyola received over $4,800 from the organization to upgrade signage and add recycling stations around Monroe Hall, the largest and busiest academic building on campus. Loyola is also adding a glass recycling hub at the north entrance to the West Road parking garage, in partnership with Glass Half Full, a New Orleans company that reverts glass back to sand for disaster relief, coastal restoration and more. The stations will be on-site and functioning by Feb. 1.

鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to bring more recycling opportunities to campus, something students and employees have been asking about for a while,鈥 said Mark Tobler, coordinator for the new Keep Loyola Beautiful program and environment program research associate. 鈥淥ur eventual goal is to expand and upgrade even more receptacles and hubs across campus, and we鈥檙e grateful to Keep Louisiana Beautiful for supporting this important initiative at Loyola.鈥

Loyola was named a Keep Louisiana Beautiful University Affiliate this year. It is one of 10 Louisiana institutions, along with hundreds of other national and community affiliates, recognized for its dedication to preserving the beauty of Louisiana. Keep Louisiana Beautiful鈥檚 University Sustainability Coalition meets throughout the academic year to share ideas, successes, and challenges related to campus sustainability.听
