A Message from the President

By Tania Tetlow on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 03:03

Dear Loyola community,

I am writing to share that today the Jesuits USA, Central and Southern Province have publicly released the names of Jesuits and former Jesuits of the Province credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.

As your President, and as someone who has worked with survivors of abuse, I want to start by unequivocally stating our commitment to supporting survivors and working to end sexual violence and abuse in every form. Hopefully, today’s release of names will be yet another moment for those hurt by the scourge of sexual abuse to heal and for our community to begin to rebuild trust. Our hearts break for every person whose life has been impacted by abuse of any kind, no matter how long ago.

I want to join our Provincial, the Rev. Ron Mercier, S.J., in reiterating our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of all survivors. Moreover, we fully support the ongoing process changes that are helping to create clarity and accountability throughout our community.

While most of the names of those who ever served at our school were known previously, two new names were made public through this release. We offer open arms to those impacted and want them to know that we are here to help them heal.

We want our community to know that we are committed to supporting any victim of abuse. We remain steadfast in our longstanding commitment to the safety and well-being of every person who is on our campus. We are dedicated to ensuring that Loyola provides a safe, supportive environment where all our students can thrive.

I would like to remind everyone that if you or someone you know is ever in need of support, Loyola offers for reporting, counseling and pastoral care.

Please join me in working to ensure this never happens again and in praying for all survivors – that they may have the support and assistance they need to move forward in trust, peace, and healing.
